About HIJAS
Hosei University Research Center for International Japanese Studies was established in 2002 with funding from the 21st Century Center Of Excellence (COE) Program and the Projects for Promoting Private Universities’ Higher-level Academic Research, both from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Since its inauguration, the center has been promoting the academic field of “International Japanese Studies” and connecting Japanese studies worldwide. The center is now developing a new “International Japanese Studies” by expanding its scope on Japan to encompass a longer historical period, more diverse region, and broader disciplines. In addition to the research center, there is also the Institute of International Japanese Studies as an educational program under the Hosei University Graduate School of Humanities. The institute is closely linked to our center and functions as a graduate program where our research output will serve educational purposes.
