Executive Summary:
The International Symposium “Man and Nature in Japan” (Alsace Symposium 2016) was held at the Centre européen d’études japonaises d’Alsace (CEEJA) on 3rd – 5th November 2016. Sponsors were the HIJAS, L’UMR 8155 Centre de Recherche sur les Civilisations de l’Asie Orientale (CRCAO), Le Département d’études japonaises de l’Université de Strasbourg, and the CEEJA. In this time 9 scholars including Japan, France, Austria, and Brazil made their presentation baesed on philosophy, literature, history, anthoropology, geography and politics and examined the meaning of relationships between man and nature in Japan. The symposium was also attended by Master’s students in Japanese Studies at Strasbourg University. It thus achieved educational goals as well as those of research.
